Organisers of the 2020 World’s Original Marmalade Awards are extremely sad to announce that the Festival on 14th & 15th March has had to be cancelled.

Jane Hasell-McCosh, founder of the awards, said: ‘We have taken the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Marmalade Festival on both 14th & 15th March.

We are truly sorry to everyone who will be disappointed by this decision, but owing to the global nature of the Festival and the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) we feel that it is the responsible thing to do, to mitigate the risks associated with a food event at the present time. We feel this is the right decision for the safety of volunteers and visitors alike.’

The mansion and gardens will be open as usual across this weekend. There will be controlled admittance to the mansion, where displays of marmalade will be on show. In order to allow as many people as possible to see their wonderful entries on display, these sealed jars will be displayed until Easter Sunday, and visitors to the mansion can see them when they visit during usual opening times.

2020 entrants can rest assured that the judging has been completed, and the winners have been selected. Anyone who has entered the Marmalade competition can find out their results and collect their marmalade entries, certificates and judge’s feedback from the Mansion on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th March. After this weekend, all certificates and feedback will be posted to entrants, as usual. Marmalade jars can be collected from Dalemain during opening hours until Easter Sunday.

Although the main festivities will not be taking place, organisers are determined that this is a postponement, rather than a complete cancellation. Plans are already underway to reschedule a number of the lectures and activities, as well as the hugely popular marmalade tastings. A citrus celebration will take place later in the year at Dalemain.

The 2020 Awards have been a huge success, with increases in entries to all of the competitions, and over 3000 jars entered in total. All of the jars have been judged, and the money raised will be added to the over £250,000 already raised by the Awards for palliative care in the UK and around the world. The 2020 Double Gold winner will be announced on Saturday 14th March and this award-winning marmalade, with the Artisan Gold and Double Gold winners, will be available to purchase online, at Fortnum & Mason and in the Dalemain shop.

Since this announcement, organisers have been overwhelmed with support from around the world, and would like to thank everyone for their kind words and understanding. They are determined to ensure that the 2021 Marmalade Awards & Festival will return even bigger and better than ever.
