As we race through October and the nights turn colder, we are all beginning to prepare for the winter months ahead. We’re turning up the cheer with our traditional Christmas lunches, which will be served in the Mediaeval Hall throughout December! Join us for a festive treat, with homemade, delicious festive food served in the cosy splendor of the hall. A location like no other, the Mediaeval hall looks gorgeous when decorated for Christmas. The use of winter plants from the garden gives it that extra magic.

Our cooks have been busy planning a mouth watering menu, with classics such as turkey and Christmas pudding joined by exciting new inventions, such as our festive pastry wreath, and our vegan apple & plum tart. Click on the menu below for the full options!

We will be serving our Christmas lunches every Sunday – Thursday 12pm – 2.15pm from 2nd – 17th December. As these lunches are very popular, pre-booking is essential. You can contact us at to book your lunch, or telephone 017684 86450. We will be happy to confirm available dates and make a booking for you. We will also be very happy to help you with any dietary requirements or special requests.

The Gardens

Although the Mansion is closed for the winter season from 27th October, the Historic Gardens will still be open to visitors coming for lunch. It’s an excellent chance to visit them at their most tranquil. The garden remains a beautiful place to visit during the winter months. It is fascinating to see the shapes of the features at Dalemain reveal themselves as the summer growth dies back. The sleeping giantess, topiary, spiral garden and Tudor Knott garden are all stunning in December, especially when carpeted with snow. The south-facing terrace has the first signs of Spring, with well-sheltered aconites beginning to bloom in December. Visitors are often taken with the ghostly shapes of the tree-ferns, wrapped up in their white fleeces.

We will also have a range of Christmas gifts – including, of course, our hugely popular Christmas marmalade! Come and taste the winner of the 2019 Marmalade Awards, along with the full Dalemain range. We also have a range of beautiful local gifts, including marmalade fudge, made by the famous Penrith Toffee Shop with Jane’s Marmalade!
