Dalemain in Winter
The winter season is here – the Mansion may have closed for the season at the end of October, but we have still been very busy here at Dalemain in the run up to Christmas. The Mediaeval Hall Tearoom has been open 11am – 3pm and has been a popular destination for walkers and Christmas shoppers, who come for a rejuvinating cup of tea and stay to browse our wonderful marmalade selection!
The garden is being put to bed for the winter, with our gardeners hard at work. The cold spell has meant that a number of plants in the greenhouses have frozen and our team have had to make sure that all of our precious ferns are well wrapped up for the coming months! Despite this, the colour in the gardens has been extraordinary, with many flowers lasting well into November. The China Blush Rose at the front of the house is a wonderful example of this – there are still buds to be seen, despite the recent frost! The Giant is sleeping in the low gardens and the Dragon is hibernating for winter. We look forward to seeing them again in spring, when they will awaken just in time for the Marmalade Festival on 17th March!
We have been getting in the festive spirit with our Christmas lunches, which have been a huge success and some of our busiest ever! The Mediaeval Hall looks wonderful decked out in it’s traditional Christmas finery, with Holly and Ivy draped across the ceiling from the gardens, and the log fire blazing. We have been serving some new treats such as venison casserole and mint and courgette soup, as well as old favourites – the turkey has proven as popular as ever! We hope that all of our visitors have enjoyed their meals. We have already begun receiving bookings for next year – so if you would like to reserve your space now, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 017684 86450
The weather has been cold but beautiful, and we have enjoyed the wonderful views of the Lakes in the frost and snow. The Mansion looks glorious with a backdrop of white. Follow us on twitter where we have been tweeting lots of people’s beautiful views. @DalemainMansion
The Tearoom will close from Monday 18th December and will re-open in mid February, along with the gardens, which will be bursting into life with snowdrops and aconites – hard as that is to imagine now! We look forward to welcoming you back to Dalemain.
Until then, everyone at Dalemain wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
