Sussex Fundraisers go for Gold!
Sussex fundraisers encourage entries into the 2018 World’s Original Marmalade Awards – with a little help from Hugh Bonneville.
Friends of Sussex Hospices have been working hard to gather even more entries for the 2018 World’s Original Marmalade Awards. They hope to raise hugely important funds for palliative care in the area – and possibly even to have one of their entries selected as the 2018 Double Gold Winner!
At a recent local fair Sussex fundraisers got an extra boost in the form of Mr Marmalade, Hugh Bonneville himself, who helped to ‘spread’ the marmalade word! He was joined by the chair of FSH, Kathy Gore, who has been working hard to drum up marmalade makers this winter. Organisers were delighted at his appearance, and hope that visitors will be inspired to get their pots out and enter the Awards this year.
The Awards have always been a unique fundraising enterprise in that entrants can select the palliative care charity that they wish to donate to. This means that you can choose to give your entry fee to your local hospice, no matter where in the world you are. The Homemade entry fee is £10 and £8 of this will go to the charity of your choice, with the remaining £2 going to our nominated charity, Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakes, whose volunteers help to make the Festival possible year after year. Winners will be selected from each of the 14 categories and announced at a special Award Ceremony at the Marmalade Festival on Saturday 17th March.
There are plenty of wonderful new categories, from a Commonwealth competition (get your friends from all over the world to enter!) to a legal category (who have recently been challenged by descendants of Australia’s 18th century convicts, in a legendary judiciary battle!) so there’s no excuse not to get marmalade making! The Dalemain Marmalade Team hope that lots of people will be inspired by the people of Sussex to get together and encourage more entries from their local area, raising money for local hospices as well as having the joy of a good marmalade well made.
