The new season will soon be upon us, and we have lots of exciting things in store for visitors to Dalemain throughout 2019!

The Mediaeval Hall Tearoom will reopen to the public on 3rd February, when we will be serving food from our delicious winter warmer menu. Do stop in for homemade meals, tasty cakes and our famous homemade scones! For more information and opening times visit

The Gardens will also be open 11am – 3pm Sunday – Thursday, and we have special early Spring discounts. It’s the perfect way to visit the gardens while they are peaceful, filled with snowdrops and aconites, with the gardeners setting things up for the coming months.

The Marmalade Awards & Festival will of course be our first big event of 2019! Visit Dalemain on 16th March for an orange extravaganza. The Awards will be announced on the front steps of Dalemain Mansion at 10am and the Festival will open! There will be stalls, music, juggling, cookery demonstrations, Marmalade Q&As, lectures, children’s acitivities and more. With hundreds of Artisan Marmalades to taste and thousands of Homemade Marmalades on display in the state rooms, it’s the perfect day out for marmalade lovers of all ages! Cumbria Drive it Day is back! The Cumbria meet for Drive It Day will take place at Dalemain on the slightly later date of Sunday 28th April, owing to the late Easter. The Drive It Day will be at Dalemain from 11am until 2pm. It is a completely informal gathering so you can come and go as you please. Parking will take place on the field in front of Dalemain Mansion, which offers wonderful views of the surrounding fells as well as a stunning backdrop. The Dalemain coffee shop will be open and serving a delicious range of homemade meals and cakes, and the historic gardens will also be open.

The Fell Pony Stallion & Colt Show will be taking place at Dalemain this spring. Visit our West park on Saturday 11th May for a wonderful show and the ideal family day out. Visit their website for more information and details on how to enter.

The Dalemain Plant Fair with Artisan Food & Crafts remains a staple event in the Dalemain calender. We are excited to be returning with our selection of the finest nurseries in the North of England, along with quality craftsmen and delicious artisan foods. Dalemain Roses – garden tours. We are delighted to announce a very special opportunity on 2nd and 16th July for visitors to learn more about the fascinating history of the Dalemain rose collection. Building on the research done by archivist Frances Wilkins for her book The Tale of 100 Dalemain Roses and their Breeders, this tour will introduce visitors to the beautiful old-fashioned roses blooming in the Dalemain gardens, and some of the stories behind them.

Cumbria Classic Car Show – the biggest Classic Car event in the region returns to Dalemain on 18th August for its 30th outing! This historic occasion promises to be the most fantastic show yet. Visit us for a day packed full of entertainment, with autotests, arena displays, music and discounted entry to Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens. Artists in Eden will be exhibiting at Dalemain in early September. We are loking forward to welcoming the very talented Printmakers back to exhibit for ‘Artists in Eden’ following their hugely successful 2018 exhibition. Artists in Eden takes place from 7th – 15th September and is organised by EVAN (The Eden Vally Artist’s Network).

Dalemain Harvest Celebrations – Dalemain has always been famous for its beautiful autumn colour, and wonderful collection of ancient apple trees. This year, we will be celebrating all things Autumnal with a special Harvest Day! There will be lectures, activities and guided tours, to be enjoyed by everyone from families to gardening experts! Learn all about picking the fruit, find out more about the range of ancient apple trees at Dalemain – including the Dalemain Gloriana – and try some delicious Autumnal treats in the Tearoom. Visit the Dalemain historic gardens, which will be full of colour, and enjoy a peaceful visit to the tranquil Low Gardens, with the trickling Dacre beck.
