Please note our safety outline is as follows:

In the Gardens:

  • Please try to remain at least two meters from other visitors, there is plenty of space in the Gardens and lots of wonderful areas to enjoy, so do take your time, but be aware of other people.
  • Our Gardeners would love to chat and answer any questions that you may have, however please try to remain two meters away from them to ensure everyone’s safety.
  • Do not litter in the Gardens.

In the Corner Barn Tearoom:

  • Please adhere to all signage and use hand sanitiser when entering and leaving the building.
  • We are using takeaway cutlery and crockery and all catering equipment is cleaned to the highest standard.
  • Please ensure all litter is put in the available bins.

In the Shop:

  • Please do not touch any of the shop items unless you intend to buy them. If you have any questions about the items on display, our staff will be happy to help you.

In the Mansion:

  • Please listen to the Guide and follow the one way system through out the Mansion.
  • Please do not touch any of the items on display within the Mansion.

We regret that dogs are not permitted in the Mansion or Gardens. They are however very welcome in the courtyard, the Great Barn Tearoom and on the estate walk to Dacre.

Further Information

Dalemain, near Ullswater in the Lake District, is a haven of tranquility. Come and take some time out from the hectic stress of every day life, and spend a while strolling through the gardens in this peaceful corner of the Lake District. Why not combine your visit to the Gardens with a walk through the Estate Parkland? It is one mile from Dalemain Mansion’s Historic Courtyard to the Ancient Dacre Church. We regret that dogs are not permitted in the Historic Gardens. They are however very welcome in corner barn, the courtyard, and on the estate walk to Dacre.

  • Disabled drivers may drive into the courtyard and park their car.
  • Due to the historic building there is no access to the first floor except via the stairs.
  • The gardens are accessible (excluding the lower garden) to wheel chairs although the gravel paths can be uneven.
  • A mobility scooter is available at the Gift Shop – it is advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
  • The Courtyard area is grade one listed cobbles and can be quite uneven.
  • Disabled toilets are available in the toilet blocks.
