It’s time to get your oranges out and your entries in!
We are delighted to announce that the Dalemain World Marmalade Awards are back for 2019, and the competitions are officially open! Entries are as always to be sent to Dalemain Mansion, Penrith, Cumbria along with the completed entry form and payment. The deadline for entries is 8th February 2019.
For those new to the Awards, there are 3 main competitions:
The HOMEMADE AWARDS – this competition is the heart of the Marmalade Awards. Open to all amateurs, there are 14 categories for everyone from ‘First Timers’ to Bellringers to Gardeners! It costs £10 to enter and the full entry fee goes to Hospice at Home Carlisle & the North Lakes. To find out more about the Homemade Awards, CLICK HERE.
THE ARTISAN AWARDS – this competition is for any small commercial producer who makes their marmalade using the ‘open pan’ method. This competition promotes quality artisan products and winnig an award denotes a marmalade of exemplary quality. Sponsored by Fortnum & Mason, Double Gold and selected Gold winners will have the opportunity to have their marmalade on sale in their flagship Piccadilly store. THE HOTEL, RESTAURANT AND B&B AWARDS – we have teamed up with the wonderful eviivo on the hunt for the best establishments in the world serving quality homemade marmalade. A good quality breakfast should come with a good quality marmalade, and if you provide one, we want to hear about it! To find out more about the Hotel, Restaurant and B&B Awards, CLICK HERE.
As always, we will have a selection of collection points, which will be announced in January, where you can drop off your marmalade. Otherwise all entries should be safely packaged before posting to Dalemain!
In 2018 we had entries from all over the world including Japan, Canada, Botswana, Lebanon and Columbia. We hope to see entries from even more countries in 2019! We are working in partnership with Thursday Cottage, who produce the Homemade winning marmalade every year, and are excited to be holding the ‘Thursday Cottage Commonwealth Competition’. This is a special contest open to all 53 Commonwealth countries, and we are looking for delicious entries made using ingredients that are unique or special to the country of origin. We love seeing how this British preserve has become loved by countries around the globe, and it is fascinating seeing the different ways in which it has been adapted. From Japanese Yuzu marmalade to Australian Buddha’s hand, these are totally new marmalades that still have all the marks of the preserves we love so much.
The Festival will be taking place on 16th March at Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens. Come and visit to see the Lake District as you have never known it, with orange stalls, cookery demonstrations, Q&As, lectures, marmalade tastings and of course, displays of thousands of marmalades throughout the state rooms.
We can’t wait to see you there.
