The Dalemain Plant Fair returns on 16th June
Plant lovers, it’s nearly time for your favourite day of the year – the Dalemain Plant Fair is returning!
Held every year in mid-June, the Plant Fair takes place on Father’s Day and is a wonderful day out for all the family. A collection of the best nurseries in the North West and Scotland will be displaying on the front lawn, alongside a selection of quality Artisan food and craft stalls. The Mansion provides a beautiful backdrop, and the whole event looks out across the Lake District Fells, making it one of the most beautiful fairs in the county. The nurseries attending in 2019 will be displaying an incredible range of plants including perennials, hostas, geraniums, palms, herbs, roses and giant daisies. Whatever you are looking for to brighten up your garden, you will find it at our Plant Fair. Whether you’re a green fingered expert or a total novice, with a tiny balcony space or acres of lawn, we have just the thing to bring colour and joy to your gardens this summer.
In addition to our fabulous nurseries, Newton Rigg Agricultural College will of course be in attendance, with expert gardening advice and information about their numerous courses on offer. We are also delighted to be welcoming the Cumbria Printmakers, who will be taking over the Great Barn for a botanical themed art exhibition. Expect a range of beautiful prints, as this collective demonstrate the many different styles of printmaking, unified by a gardening theme that will make this exhibition a gardener’s delight like no other. The Great Barn will also be serving a range of delicious homemade meals and cakes, and opens into the grove, a beautiful space looking out onto the Plant Fair.
The Great Barn isn’t the only place where you can get a tasty treat – the Mediaeval Hall Tearoom will be open and serving delicious homemade food, including of course our famous marmalade gingerbread! Owing to their popularity last year we are also delighted to once again be serving Cream Teas on the Terrace – one of the most beautiful spots in the garden, the terrace looks out onto the Lakeland Fells over the Dalemain Estates. Enjoy a homemade scone surrounded by the scents and colours of some of Dalemain’s glorious old-fashioned roses.
The gardens are looking their absolute best at this time of year and we cannot wait to share them with you. As well as offering a huge discount onthe Historic gardens – just £7 to visit the Mansion and Gardens, or £5 to see the gardens on their own – we will also be providing a number of fascinating guided tours throughout the day. Join one of the gardeners and learn more about the history of the Dalemain gardens, the plantings and plans for the future of this beautiful landscape. Dalemain is especially famous for its Meconopsis Dalemain, the Himalayan blue poppy that is particular to Dalemain, and these will be in full bloom, making them a must-see for the weekend.
Entry to the Plant Fair is FREE, and this includes the Great Barn and Tearoom as well as all of the stalls on offer. Dalemain’s Plant Stall will also be open, so if you are feeling inspired you will have the opportunity to purchase blue poppies, old-fashioned roses and much more. The Dalemain shop will be serving a range of Award winning marmalades – officially the best in the world! These marmalades won the 2019 Marmalade Awards and have come from Taiwan, Japan, the Netherlands and Spain, as well as of course all over the UK. Get your spoons out and get ready for a taste!
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 16th June! The Plant Fair is open 10am – 4pm and we have free all-day parking. If you are interested in bringing a party, or if you have any questions, please contact Florence Lindeman on 017685 86450.
